Students offer input on 2016 election
Election Day is the most anticipated day in American politics. As we approach this monumental event, it is perhaps the first time many college students have the chance to vote in a presidential election. Many of these new, young voters have the chance to make a large impact on who will become president and even the power to potentially swing the vote. It’s no shock that neither Donald Trump nor Hilary Clinton is particularly popular with college students and young people. With new scandals and … [Read more...]
Building the AU swim program from the ground up
If you haven’t heard of the AU men’s and women’s swim teams, that’s probably because, prior to this year, it didn’t exist. “I am so excited for the potential of this team and what the future holds for the program,” Head Coach Conner Snare stated. His passion for the sport started at a young age and evolved as he became a four-year varsity swimmer at Ball State University. Upon graduating, Snare thought he’d return to his hometown of Fort Wayne and start coaching his club team. “When I … [Read more...]
AU works to continue increasing enrollment
1,497—that’s the total number of traditional undergraduate students at AU this fall. Although overall enrollment is slightly down since last year, the class of 2020 is one of the biggest classes to come through AU in past years. That number, accompanied with a 77 percent retention rate for the freshman class, means the Admissions Department and the Enrollment & Marketing team have a good reason to celebrate. “The increase in the fall class is attributable to plain old hard work on the part … [Read more...]
A glimpse at Fall Into Dance open auditions
The nervous excitement starts to build as the dancers hear the music beginning to play. Shauna Steele, the area coordinator for dance in the School of Music at AU, instructs the performers to make a giant circle on stage behind the curtain as they await the opening of the show. “Take your energy and throw it into the circle,” she instructs. “Clear your mind and focus on the performance, but have fun.” It’s show time. This is the scene just moments before the Fall Into Dance show begins. With … [Read more...]
First annual Raven Run is a huge success for residence life
“Just keep going….just keep going…,” student body president Tiffany McHugh recited in her head. This was the day she had been working toward for months. McHugh rounded the final turn of her 10k run and could now see the finish line. From nearly a half-mile away, cheers and music could be heard blasting from the Smith-Martin courtyard. It was the finish line for the first-ever Raven Run. McHugh competed in the race, as did various faculty members, including President John Pistole. Pistole … [Read more...]
Women’s track and field breaks 4 records
Blasting worship music through her headphones, Courtney King scribbles “ φοράω” on her forearm as she sits in corner of the indoor track. The Greek word translates to “fix your eyes” and is a saying King has held dearly all season long. The tradition reminds her each time she looks down upon her arm of the greater purpose she serves. “As my coaches have taught me, it’s about staying positive and thankful no matter what happens, and then that is what puts me into the position where I can get … [Read more...]
