Jackie Grondahl finds calling in visual storytelling
Jackie Grondahl isn’t really sure that she knows what art is, but she is sure that it is her deepest passion, and she would like to spend the rest of her life creating it. “How do you define art, you know?” Grondahl said. “I’d never really thought about it before, but for me, the reason why I make art, per se, is that it’s all about capturing a specific moment. Time is always fleeting, and time is never something that we can hold tangibly. So capturing it is really cool, and something about … [Read more...]
SGA Elections to take place tomorrow
Tomorrow, students will elect the SGA Student Body President and Vice President for the 2017-18 school year. The primary, which took place on Feb. 10, resulted in a race between pairs Mitchell Stacy and Olanike Onimole and Hamilton Smith and Victor Mweu. Both duos envision their time in office as a time to improve communication from Administration to the student body. Stacy and Onimole hope to improve communication through a holistic leadership method. “Mitchell and I both are passionate … [Read more...]
Donald Trump is not doing the work of God
I wasn't going to write it—people are tired of hearing about this. I'm tired of it, too. But that's precisely why I must say it. Donald Trump is not doing the work of God. No, far from it. He is doing his very best to turn America into another pawn in his rat race. Our enemies and allies alike are laughing. Trump has single-handedly given our enemies all the ammunition against us that they could ever need. I'll say it again for the people in the back: Donald Trump is not doing the work of … [Read more...]
AU senior, Allison Lemons, shares stories of time in California
Allison Lemons has always had a passion for the world of entertainment. Lemons, a senior cinema and media arts major with a minor in music business, was able to break away from the “AU bubble” last semester and experience the industry at its core in Los Angeles, California. Her semester was unlike any at AU. Three days a week, Lemons worked as an intern at Funny or Die, the production company and comedy website owned by Will Ferrell. Through her internship experience, Lemons learned a lot … [Read more...]
When home becomes just a place you visit
The clock is ticking, and my refrigerator is, indeed, running (perhaps I’ll see how far it gets before I go catch it). My home growing up always made those noises. I never seemed to notice them. That was, until I moved into my own apartment this year. Suddenly, the noises I heard daily were drastically different. I noticed them for a few days—the hum of the air conditioner, the voices from people in the stairwell, and the ticking of the stove when you turn it on. Then, much like everything … [Read more...]

The Andersonian approaches its 70th year in February as the university approaches its 100th next fall. Throughout the 2016-2017 school year, the Andersonian will share summaries of some of its most important publications. In light of this week’s nationwide celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Andersonian looks back on an article published on May 16, 1975, titled “AC [Anderson College] Black Concerns Are Explored.” This story has been edited for length. By Marcia Patrie and … [Read more...]
Human Trafficking Prevention Month hits close to home
Modern-day slavery and human trafficking is an issue in every pocket of the world—including Madison County. Locally, organizations like Stripped Love and the AU interest club Bound are working to combat slavery. “Human trafficking is not only an international problem—it’s present here in the Midwest as well,” said Tressia Phipps, a junior biology pre-med major and the current president of Bound. On Dec. 28, President Barack Obama issued a formal proclamation declaring the month of January in … [Read more...]
Central Indiana offers multiple holiday-themed attractions
The holiday season brings many wishes each year. From children writing letters to Santa to store patrons dropping change in a Salvation Army bucket in order to help the less fortunate, there is never a shortage of wistful, or wishful, thinking during these winter months. Some are wishing for a white Christmas, while others wish that it would never fall below 80 degrees outside. Some wish for gadgets and trinkets, and others wish for more time at home with their loved ones. Anyone wishing for a … [Read more...]
Discrepancies in cost of meal plans
Last year, AU Food Services announced two new meal plans while simultaneously reducing emphasis on their previous meal plan options in order to market their new, larger plans. Those new plans, Platinum 19 and Platinum 15, offer more meals per semester to students, as well as a lower cost per meal swipe. However, the prices that students pay per meal, specifically when using the meal swipe exchange program, are markedly higher than what students actually receive in food services. Meal plan … [Read more...]
