AU’s Student Government Association (SGA) strengthens connections between students and administrators, using their influence to make concrete, tangible changes at AU, as well as building a more organized group structure. Although small  in comparison with the 2,500 undergraduates at AU, the 2011-2012 SGA performed well. According to the fliers stuck on bathroom doors around campus, there are more trashcans in and around Hartung; the lighting around the valley has increased and been … [Read more...]

Obama and Romney will likely be the Democrat and Republican nominees. (Photo Provided)

After a long primary season, the race for the GOP presidential nomination is essentially over. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is widely seen as the Republican nominee. Once Romney officially earns the GOP nomination this summer, it will set up a Romney vs. Obama matchup in the general election this fall. But first, Indiana primary voters will go to the polls in May to make their voices heard. One such race might shift the balance of power in the U.S. Senate. Soon, however, … [Read more...]

Students hold off on marriage

In an industrialized country where marriage is valued above other family forms, married students at an undergraduate institution are still a minority, contrary to the ‘Ring by Spring’ attitude at some colleges like AU. The vast majority of college undergraduates are unmarried, and this unreadiness to take the plunge could be based on personal beliefs as well as statistical facts pertaining to the marriage of individuals while in college. Amrutha Pulikottil, a senior majoring in … [Read more...]

Gas prices stretch budgets

Gas prices in Indiana change as often as the weather. The average price for a gallon of gas in the state sits at $3.91. Kevin Brown, assistant professor of business and finance at AU, said many things can contribute to inflated prices. “In many ways, it’s supply and demand,” said Brown. Gas prices can increase based on foreign unrest as well as speculation, a method of predicting what prices will be in the future. These things can be a threat to the supply of crude oil, which … [Read more...]
