Ravens suffer setback at Hanover

September 27, 2017 by Alec Brown

After defeating Earlham in the first HCAC game of the season, the football team looked to steal a road win against Hanover.

The Ravens got out of the gates quickly, jumping ahead 7-2  on  Johnny  Ovalle’s one-yard rushing touchdown. The scoring plunge was set up by an Alex Dickey interception that gave the Ravens the ball at the Hanover one-yard line.

From that point on, the Ravens struggled on the offensive side of the ball.

Midway through the third quarter, the Ravens trailed 43-7, and had negative 8 yards of offense.

The Ravens finally broke through when sophomore quarterback Jarrod Hubble hooked up with Derek Massey from 62 yards out to reach paydirt.

Jason King found Alex Barnett for an 81-yard touchdown for the Ravens final score. Hanover won by a final score of 64-21.

Hubble and King both threw for 82 yards. Ovalle was the leading rusher with 14 yards on the ground.

Hanover controlled possesion for 41 minutes. The Raven defense made a valiant effort, but wore down as the game went on.

Drew Wilson recorded a game-high 17 tackles. Dakota Frauhiger and Wyatt Schebler had strong performances as well, bringing down 14 and 13 Panthers respectively.

The loss dropped AU to 1-3 on the season, 1-1 in HCAC play. The Ravens will host Rose-Hulman on Saturday. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m.
