Comedian Chonda Pierce tour to visit Anderson

Emmy-nominated comedian Chonda Pierce is bringing her “Getting Back to Funny” tour to Madison Park Church of God on Nov. 2. She is touring 25 cities, including Anderson, and will be accompanied by singer-songwriter, actress and author Karyn Williams. Pierce’s tour is titled “Getting Back to Funny” because of her journey in life recovering from the loss of her husband in 2014, and other personal tragedies.

Pierce is the Recording Industry Association of America’s most-awarded female comic. She is known as the “Queen of Clean,” and has written eight books in addition to her career in live comedy. Tickets for her Anderson show are available for purchase on www.itickets.com, with general admission tickets at $27 and VIP tickets at $49.50. Group ticket discounts are available on the site.

Dativus presents Cheap Thrills over homecoming weekend

Men’s social-service club Dativus presented Cheap Thrills, a comedy variety show, for the first time in several years last Friday evening. Senior Music Education major Glen Shinn is Dativus’ Cheap Thrills director this year. Shinn and other Dativus members put many hours of work into planning and rehearsing the show.

Shinn was very pleased with the turnout for the performance. “I was humbled and proud to hear responses from alumni,” Shinn said. “Many of them were impressed and felt that we did justice in redeeming Cheap Thrills. It was incredible to see ideas in my head and the ideas of my writing staff come to life, and it was an honor to be the first sitting Cheap Thrills director in six years. I’m very thankful that the campus was able to see a bit more of what Dativus is about.”
