Fall season athletes recognized on All-Conference teams

November 14, 2018 by Jordan Yaney

Many Ravens were recognized by the HCAC following the fall season of sports.

AU was well represented amongst first team and second team selections, as well as honorable mentions and sportsmanship teams.

Men’s soccer senior captain Jacob Pokorski was named to the All-HCAC first team.

Pokorski led AU with eight goals and seven assists. He was joined by sophomore Wes Erny as an honorable mention and junior captain Nick Martin was named to the Christopher M. Ragsdale Sportsmanship Team.

Erny was named HCAC Offensive Player of the Week following the first week of the season.

The women’s soccer team was well represented with four players making the HCAC second team, along with one honorable mention.

Among those making the second team were juniors Emily Buchman and Bailey Dornbusch, as well as seniors Danae Miller and Allyson Saylor. Buchman led the team in scoring with 11 goals.

Saylor started every game in the goal this season, averaging just one goal allowed per game and saving over 78 percent of shots.

Senior forward Katie Frazer was named as an honorable mention, while senior Ashley Downs was the team’s representative on the Christopher M. Ragsdale All-Sportsmanship Team. Frazer lead the Ravens in assists, with six.

The volleyball team not only made their return to the conference tournament this season, but had three players earn All-HCAC honors. Sophomore Olivia Rice, junior Kylie Osborne and freshman Brooke Troyer were all named as honroable mentions. Troyer was also named to the All-Freshman team for the Ravens. Makaylea Alberts was recognized for her sportsmanship as well.

In their comeback season, the Lady Ravens tennis team had several players receive recognition.

Senior Abby Kirkman and junior Allison Newman were named to the All-HCAC team, while Anna Creech, Mandy Meserve and Cassandra Weyker were selected as honorable mentions.

The team put together a six game conference winning streak this season and was tied for the second best record at the end of the year.

The cross country team was represented by senior Jona Odell and junior Ian Leatherman, who both earned All-HCAC honors.

Leatherman was named HCAC Runner of the Week this season.

The women’s runners were represented by senior Sarah Repp, who won the HCAC Cross Country Freshman of the Year Award back in 2015.

Overall, the Ravens had 20 fall athletes receive honors in some capacity.
