Maubach dives into head coaching position

October 4, 2021 by Zac Tallent

Emma Maubach, a 2020 graduate of Anderson University, was recently named interim head coach of the Ravens swim and dive team.

Maubach, a swimmer herself, was a freshman at Anderson during the team’s first ever swim season in 2016. Maubach swam breaststroke and backstroke during her four years at Anderson and began swimming more distance races for the Ravens during her junior and senior seasons.

Maubach came to Anderson her freshman year wanting to study youth ministries, but it was during her sophomore and junior seasons that she really fell in love with swimming and decided she wanted to coach.

Maubach graduated in 2020 with a degree in sports and recreational leadership and a minor in Christian ministries.

After graduation, Maubach stuck around campus to work with the swim team as an assistant coach.

Late this summer, Maubach became the sixth head coach for the Ravens swim team in just four years. Maubach said that the most exciting part about being hired at her alma mater is that she still gets to see the swimmers and see how excited they are to come to practice.

Maubach knows that she needs to show and prove to her team that she has the knowledge and is capable of leading and coaching the Ravens this season.

“As a young head coach, it has been difficult to earn the trust and respect from some of the team,” said Maubach. “I was an athlete with the juniors and seniors so I have tried really hard to separate myself so they can see me as a coach.”

Maubach hopes that in her first full season as head coach the team can teach her a few things on how to be the best coach for them. She knows that getting feedback from the swimmers will help the program grow and help her become a better coach.

Maubach still gets excited about swimming even though she is not competing anymore.

“I am most excited for the fast times during our meets from the team,” said Maubach.

Maubach is thrilled to see her team compete and show off their hard work in their first meet of the season on Oct. 16 in Lafayette, Indiana.

“I really just want the team to know that I am their number one supporter,” said Maubach.

Maubach knows that coaching changes can be difficult since she herself had multiple coaches during her time at Anderson. She wants the team to know that she is there for them in more ways than just as a swim coach.

Maubach hopes to grow the swim program at Anderson and extend her tenure as head coach for several more seasons.
