ReStoring faith in humanity

October 11, 2021 by Cassie Billings

The ReStore of Chesterfield, Ind., a store affiliated with Habitat for Humanity of Madison County, is giving a 25% off discount to Anderson University students on all of their items. Dawn Davis, the manager of ReStore, explained that “this is a permanent discount for all AU students with a valid ID.”

The ReStore is a lot like Goodwill, but it is closer to campus and has a lot of rare and fun finds.

“We sell furniture, electronics, clothing, housewares and small and large appliances,” said Davis. ReStore gets new items everyday, so you may not see the same thing every time you go.

Habitat for Humanity of Madison County has been working hard since the COVID-19 pandemic by helping make the lives of families who are less fortunate better in the Anderson community and surrounding towns. Not only do they build houses for low income families, but they also build ramps for disabled people, teach skills for future homeowners and beautify the community.

The ReStore has been serving the community by providing jobs, volunteer opportunities and reused goods.

“The goal of the ReStore is to raise funds to build and [remodel] homes in the community,” said Davis.

Buying items at the ReStore gives back to the community and helps out those who are receiving new homes from Habitat for Humanity, all while finding the next coolest item for your dorm.

However, this is not the only way to show your support for the community. Both Habitat for Humanity of Madison County and the ReStore are looking for volunteers to help them serve in the community. There are plenty of programs to get involved with such as Women Build, Saws, the ReStore and the construction sites for building houses.

No matter your skill set, whether you are good with a hammer or talking to others, you can always find a place to help out at Habitat for Humanity.

AU students looking to benefit the community should drop off any unwanted items from their dorm rooms, apartments or houses at the ReStore where everything from clothes to mini fridges will be accepted.

The ReStore is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For more information on ReStore, visit the Facebook page at Habitat for Humanity ReStore Chesterfield, IN. or the website at http://www.habitat.org/.
