It’s not just better––it’s Good’s

February 5, 2020 by Guest Writer

By Connor Carr

Since the 1940’s, Good’s Candy Shop has been gracing the Anderson area with delicious chocolates. In 1992 Randy Good took control of the business. Then in 2003, he created a brand-new facility on 53rd Street, which is now the main extension of the business. Many students from AU come every week to enjoy quality ice cream with quality friends.

At this facility, Good’s makes virtually all of the chocolate, ice cream and fudge that they serve. When asked what makes Good’s stand out, Shelby, an employee and manager, said, “We don’t use artificial flavors, everything you get is fresh and has no preservatives. Along with that, it’s all homemade. That’s the selling point.”

Good’s prides themselves on the quality of their service. Owner Randy Good claims that “People don’t just come here for the ice cream and candy, they come here for the experience.”

Part of creating an extraordinary experience is their outstanding customer service. If your order was made incorrectly or forgotten, they are happy to do whatever is necessary to get you smiling again. It doesn’t matter whether you bombed or aced a test, you’ll always be greeted with a warm hello and a smile.

On top of great customer service and warm greetings, the employees try to be more than an ice cream scooping robot. They have an aura of professionality and love to be personal with their customers!

As far as pricing goes, Good’s does pretty well. At $4.39 for two scoops of premium ice cream in a waffle cone, they are on the higher end of the price spectrum. However, compared to other local ice cream shops, Good’s has the best price to product ratios. They have thirty-three “Homemade Super Premium Ice Cream” hard dip (hand scooped) flavors and thirty-seven “Soft-Serve” flavors in addition to being able to make their thirty-three Premium Ice Cream flavors soft-serve. And that’s just the ice cream section. They also offer a variety of specialty shakes, malts, sundaes, fusions (basically a Dairy Queen blizzard), banana split and Randy’s gourmet Root Beer Float. A fun fact about the banana split, is that it can be customized in over 31 trillion ways.

All of these different items can be made in from of the Premium Ice Cream flavors. They also offer bunches of superior candies ranging from dark chocolate covered caramels, to chocolate peanut butter fudge, and even dill-pickle popcorn.

After being around for over sixty years, Good’s has many faithful customers. Being a family owned business, offering quality service, as well as reasonable prices, Good’s is a great place for AU students, faculty, staff, and families to stop by and grab some ice cream or candy. Anyone who comes in will be treated with the same respect and service. Good’s Candy Shop, “It’s not just better, it’s Good’s.”
