Hope and light: A time where art is needed most

January 24, 2021 by Guest Writer

By Mackenzie Currie Why is art important? Is it needed for a long-standing career? Is it of equal importance as sports and sciences?  At first glance, these questions could be answered with a simple, “Art isn’t important.” However, a look into history may change that attitude towards this field.  Art is a way of expression or a way to convey a story. It has allowed people to express emotions without using words.  Let’s take the Renaissance, for example. During a time … [Read more...]

Ministry persists on campus despite COVID-19

November 3, 2020 by Guest Writer

By Rebekah Hisle Despite COVID-19 restrictions affecting chapel attendance, many students have been working to share the love of God at AU through campus ministries.  Every week Hadley Duke, a senior music business and journalism major at AU leads 10:07, a student-led worship ministry on campus.  “A small group of students hold acoustic worship at 10:07 p.m. every Tuesday night,” said Duke. “We normally sing around seven songs, and it's just a time for open worship and … [Read more...]

President Pistole welcomes students back

August 30, 2020 by Guest Writer

By John Pistole Welcome back Ravens! We are so glad you’re back on campus or here for the first time. It’s been such a quiet, surreal time here these last five plus months.  And it just confirms what we all know, or will soon learn, that AU is a relational campus community that does best when we can gather in person, augmented of course by online learning as needed and appropriate, as we did last spring. This fall of course is different—so very different—and I’m personally asking each … [Read more...]

Historic season led by defense

March 3, 2020 by Guest Writer

By Zac Tallent For the first time in a decade, the women’s basketball team clinched their spot in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament. The Ravens faced off against Bluffton University in a hard-fought battle. Although the game didn’t end in the way the Ravens would have liked, it left a positive feeling over the team. Ravens center Hannah Hawkins blocked her way into the record book this season. The junior from Fairmount, Indiana broke the AU Division III era record for … [Read more...]

“A Heart for Kids” assists Anderson community

February 19, 2020 by Guest Writer

By Samantha Huber AU repeatedly tells their students to get involved both on-campus and in the community, but students often have no idea where to start or feel unsure about taking the step to join an organization. Several students from AU have taken that leap of faith and joined “A Heart for Kids,” an organization that serves the Anderson community through faith-based mentoring and tutoring for children.  Sophomore Jennifer Sanders explained what a great opportunity working with “A Heart … [Read more...]

It’s not just better––it’s Good’s

February 5, 2020 by Guest Writer

By Connor Carr Since the 1940’s, Good’s Candy Shop has been gracing the Anderson area with delicious chocolates. In 1992 Randy Good took control of the business. Then in 2003, he created a brand-new facility on 53rd Street, which is now the main extension of the business. Many students from AU come every week to enjoy quality ice cream with quality friends.  At this facility, Good’s makes virtually all of the chocolate, ice cream and fudge that they serve. When asked what makes … [Read more...]

It’s a winding road to recovery

January 21, 2020 by Guest Writer

By Aaron Hughey Getting better is not just a process—it is a journey. It is a thousand-piece puzzle that not even grandma can finish in a few days. Getting better takes a lifetime because we are constantly trying to become our best selves.  That is the goal, right? To be the best version of ourselves.  But what does it mean when we start going in circles? When we keep passing the same signs and avoiding the exits?  What does it mean when we circumvent any and every … [Read more...]

Jesus would not stand for this

November 12, 2019 by Guest Writer

By Addison Lavelle The immigration crisis in America is reaching new and profound lows. I do not accept the narrative that immigrants are a detriment to the American dream when, in fact, immigrants are the very reason that the United States of America exists in the first place.  I have listened to politicians discuss this topic with fiery rhetoric over the past four years and have shaken my head in disgust at the increasingly radical position taken by the far right on how we should … [Read more...]
