Excitement is in the air for the men’s basketball team. With the regular season wrapping up, the HCAC conference tournament comes swinging around.
The men’s basketball team had finished the regular season with a 20-4 record and a 10 game winning streak, making them the favorite for the HCAC The Ravens are ranked No. 4 regionally.
With that comes the anticipation of hosting the HCAC Conference Tournament and are favored for tournament victory. If team chemistry has anything to do with it, the Anderson men’s basketball team should have no trouble winning the conference tournament.
With twelve returning players there was a lot of room this season for growth and camaraderie within the team and it seems that potential has definitely been tapped into this season.
Carter Collins, the men’s basketball coach, said, “I know that the guys get along really well… I think our chemistry is really strong.” The players are putting on an impressive performance on the court and bonding outside of the sport.
The team has definitely come very far this season, and they continue to strive to improve. As Coach Collins put it, “I think we’ve done a good job kind of building our foundation. We know who we are offensively, we know who we are defensively… if you wanted to put it into one word it would be focused. Just focused on each day.”
It appears that this is a team not only dedicated to playing the sport well, but also improving anywhere they can in the process.
With the HCAC tournament lurking around the corner, the excitement is almost palpable. There will be four teams competing, but only one will be able to walk away as the victor. The Ravens have a great shot at achieving that.
The tournament will be hosted at Anderson University for the second time in history, with the other being 13 years ago.
Coach Collins said, “It’s not an opportunity that comes around all the time… it’s a fun, enjoyable team to watch. We play fast, we get up and down and if we can get some good fan support that will make our lives easier and the lives of our opponents even more difficult.”
Get out there and support your Ravens this Friday at 5 p.m. as they battle the Manchester Spartans.
