On Sep. 14, 2024, AU achieved a significant 20-6 victory over Oberlin College in a football game characterized by pivotal moments and standout performances.

The match commenced with Oberlin College taking an early lead following a 59-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Nevertheless, AU demonstrated notable resilience and strategic acumen as the game unfolded.

During the third and fourth quarters, Anderson’s offense and defense became increasingly effective. The Ravens scored three touchdowns, including a notable 85-yard interception return by freshman Zaire Prioleau, which highlighted the strength of Anderson’s defense.

AU’s defensive unit was particularly formidable, recording eight sacks that disrupted Oberlin’s offensive rhythm. Despite Oberlin out gaining Anderson in total yardage (268 to 257), Anderson’s defense played a crucial role in securing the victory.

Key contributions from Anderson included Zac Montgomery and Carson Brookbank, who each scored rushing touchdowns. The Ravens’ offensive efficiency was commendable, with a 4.8-yard average gain per play compared to Oberlin’s 3.7 yards.

Albert Rabb, running back for Anderson, expressed his satisfaction with the win, stating, “It felt good to get my first win as an Anderson Raven. It was great to see coach Codd get his first win.”

The game statistics:

  • First Downs: Anderson 14, Oberlin 16
  • Third Down Efficiency: Anderson 36% (4 of 11), Oberlin 35% (6 of 17)
  • Fourth Down Efficiency: Anderson 25% (1 of 4), Oberlin 25% (1 of 4)
  • Total Offensive Plays: Anderson 53 plays averaging 4.8 yards per play; Oberlin 72 plays averaging 3.7 yards per play
  • Net Yards Passing: Anderson 57 yards, Oberlin 223 yards
  • Net Yards Rushing: Anderson 200 yards, Oberlin 45 yards
  • Penalties: Anderson 6 for 55 yards, Oberlin 9 for 95 yards

Overall, AU’s balanced performance in offense and defense, coupled with key turnovers and effective special teams play, ensured their victory. This win represents a significant achievement for the Ravens and a good start to the season.
