Two Andersonian reporters, Catherina Shultz and Miles Morey, were recently awarded for their reporting excellence by the Indiana College Press Association (ICPA).
Shultz earned third place in the online features category for her profile of AU President Scott Moats. The story, which was published in September, netted praise from ICPA judges for being informative and insightful into Moats’ approach to university governance. Shultz is a senior and will be graduating at commencement on May 9th.
“I came up with the idea to write about President Scott Moats by thinking, ‘Wouldn’t it be an honor to see what the new president of the university is like, what he’s going to do, and how he’s going to impact the university,'” said Shultz.
Morey won in the podcasting category, beating out entrants from Butler and Purdue universities to claim the top spot. He interviewed former AU President John Pistole shortly before his final official duty addressing graduates at last year’s commencement. Judges praised his storytelling abilities and the congenial nature of his conversation with former President Pistole. Morey graduated from AU in 2025.
“We are extremely proud of Catherina and Miles, and all their contributions to the Andersonian,” said Prof. Peter Elliott, faculty advisor to the newspaper. ”Our staff is not as large as those at bigger universities, but our students’ talents are second to none and we appreciate their dedication.”
