Ravens swept; still pursue spot in HCAC tournament
With a hole to dig out of to make the conference tournament and three games at home over the weekend, the Ravens looked to take at least two games from the visiting Earlham Quakers. Anderson was unable to do so, instead getting swept by the Quakers. Earlham outscored the Ravens 25-10 in the series, taking game one 4-1, game two 10-3 and game three 11-6. Intramural season four nears end with upcoming playoffs
Across campus, the impending summer vacation is evident throughout the student body. With only two weeks left in the year, the AU Intramural staff is doing their best to ensure the student body wraps up their year on a high note with season four. Ravens succeed on and off the field
In addition to their on-field success, Anderson’s winter student-athletes were enjoyed a successful season off the field. In order to qualify for the Tom Bohlsen Academic All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Team, students must be varsity athletes carrying a cumulative 3.5 GPA. Decker named pitcher of the week
Hadley Decker was named HCAC pitcher of the week for her two starts against Alma and Rose-Hulman. Decker posted a fantastic 0.57 era. Against Alma, the freshman picked up the first win of her collegiate career. She threw 15.2 innings over her two starts, striking out 10 batters and allowing only one earned run. Anderson wins conference home opener over MSJ
After dropping a one game stand Wednesday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Anderson looked to get back on track with a series victory in their conference home opener against Mount St. Joseph. Coming off of a four-game winning streak, the Ravens looked to start conference play with a bang, visiting Bluffton for a three-game series. “Typically our goal is to sweep home series and take two out of three on the road,” explained shortstop Nick Butcher. Spring golf season underway
The men’s golf team hit the fairway Saturday to begin their Spring season, competing in the Mount St. Joseph Invitational. The Ravens placed 13th out of the 14 competing teams. Zach Whitaker, a sophomore on the team, found some silver linings in the performance. “Considering the poor conditions this weekend,” he said, “we played some good golf at times. Softball team endures tough week with four losses
After winning five of their eight contests at THE Spring Games in Clermont, Florida, the Ravens endured a tough week, finding themselves on the losing side of the box score all four times out. AU dropped their first two home games of the season, losing both games of a Thursday doubleheader to the Ohio Northern Polar Bears. Runs came at a premium for the orange and black against ONU. Cooley HCAC Field Athlete of the Year
After another strong season, Garrett Cooley successfully defended his crown as HCAC Field Athlete of the Year. Cooley entered the 2017 track season as the reigning Athlete of the year with his sights set on defending his crown and qualifying for Nationals. “It feels great to repeat,” Cooley said. “It was my main goal before the season, in addition to qualifying for Nationals.” Cooley’s performances were stellar throughout the season.
