Since the last issue, women’s soccer kicked off the conference season with back-to-back wins before falling to Hanover on Saturday. The team opened conference play with a 1-0 upset win at home over Mount St. Joseph on a goal by Maddie Martin in the second. They traveled to Manchester and secured a dominant 4-0 win. Preseason conference favorite Hanover proved too much in a hard-fought 1-0 road defeat. The Ravens entered on a seven-match stretch without a loss. Now 7-2-1 with a 2-1 record in HCAC … [Read more...]
Baseball participates in Orange and Black Series
Each year, the Anderson baseball team wraps up their fall ball season with the Orange and Black Series. The tradition is a favorite amongst coaches, players and AU students alike. In year’s past, a captain was appointed to “Team Orange” and a captain to “Team Black.” The captains would alternate picks, each drafting a team comprised of one-half of the baseball roster. Under new Head Coach Mathew Bair, the series was held under a slightly different format this year. The entire program met … [Read more...]
Brown’s Breakdown: The healing power of sport
Tommy Tomlinson, an ESPN staff writer, penned this in a column on the 10-year anniversary of 9/11: “The sports we love are not a dip into the waters of Lourdes. They’re a bandage, a salve, a plaster cast on a broken arm. They don’t heal us by themselves. They give us protection and time so we can heal on our own. “You know how a great book can consume you so fully that you get lost in the world between the covers? A great game—or even just a great sports moment—can do the same thing. It … [Read more...]
Ravens suffer setback at Hanover
After defeating Earlham in the first HCAC game of the season, the football team looked to steal a road win against Hanover. The Ravens got out of the gates quickly, jumping ahead 7-2 on Johnny Ovalle’s one-yard rushing touchdown. The scoring plunge was set up by an Alex Dickey interception that gave the Ravens the ball at the Hanover one-yard line. From that point on, the Ravens struggled on the offensive side of the ball. Midway through the third quarter, the Ravens trailed 43-7, … [Read more...]

AU stumbles out of gate; looks to bounce back against Earlham
Entering his third season leading the Raven football program, Coach Sala had high hopes for the team’s on-field product. After stumbling out of the gates to an 0-2 record, those hopes haven’t been lived up to as previously envisioned. “We’ve made progress in a lot of other areas that people don’t see,” Sala said. “On the field, we have to keep hitting the reset button each year.” Hitting the reset button has resulted in another extremely young team taking the field for the Ravens. Dayan … [Read more...]
