Upcoming Encore to include a Homecoming twist

August 13, 2021 by Gillian Lintz

Every year, student talent is showcased and celebrated in Encore performances presented by the Avanti Boosters. Students have the opportunity to audition and perform for their peers in Reardon Auditorium with a full band. This year, the 30th Anniversary of Encore, will be extra special.

Past Encore concerts have included themes like “Soundtrack” and “British Takeover.” The first Encore of this year will be “Anything Goes” but with a twist: a limited number of alumni will have the opportunity to perform in the concerts with current AU students during Homecoming weekend.  “Anything Goes” includes any songs on the black list this time, too.

Senior music business major Austin Hostetler, productions officer for Avanti Boosters and head of Encore, explained why it’s so important.

“It gives students an opportunity to perform on a massive stage with a live band and perform for their peers, which helps to build a fun AU community,” Hostetler said.

Hostetler also spoke on the inclusion of the alumni for this Encore.

“It is our 30th show, so why not throw a fun spin on things and give alumni the opportunity to perform again? Anderson is a family, and that includes current and past students,” he explained.

Alumni interested in participating in Encore can send an email including an audition tape, AU graduation year and the title and artist of your song to avanti@anderson.edu by Sept. 13. Alumni also have an option to audition in person the week of Sept. 13.

The performances will be held on Oct. 9 in Reardon Auditorium at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Any questions can be sent to Hostetler at ajhostetler@anderson.edu.
