Last Tuesday, on February 20, students were informed that the next day of classes, Wednesday the 21, had a surprise cancellation for the AU tradition of “Wonderful Wednesday.”
This year, a variety of events were scheduled throughout the day for students to come and go. Wednesday kicked off with “Grown Ups” played at midnight. Then, later that morning, donuts were provided to all the resident dorm hall lobbies, a petting zoo was held in the Smartin courtyard in the afternoon, and the night ended with a watch party of “Tangled” in Reardon Auditorium.
However, one activity floated its way to the top…Battleship in the Natatorium. Students in teams of three loaded up in a canoe set afloat in the pool, battling to sink the other teams using buckets.
Each team came up with a fun name and some coordinated outfits. One team, Wet Socks Armada, decked out in goggles, inflatables and wet socks, won second place in their game.
“Everyone gets triggered by wet socks, and so we thought we would make a team out of that to put fear into everyone’s eyes. It worked for the most part,” said Parker Hammons, a junior exercise science major. “It was a lot of fun. It was exhausting but it was worth it!” Along with Owen Smith and Isaac Goodwin, Wet Socks Armada brought laughter from the bleachers and a wonderful Wednesday to remember for AU.
