Baseball and Softball takes off to Florida during Spring Break

March 17, 2026 by Eli DiRuzza

During spring break, the AU baseball and softball teams took trips down to Florida to play games. Baseball went 3-3 and softball went 2-4. Softball also had games in Elizabethtown, KY, in which they went winless.

BASEBALL

Baseball started their Florida trip on Friday, Mar 6, beating Waynesburg 8-4. Pitcher Rhet Hackman picked up the win (1-0) while Braden Richey earned a save (1). Dylan Hogan launched his first homer of the year and Griffin Wolf had a couple doubles.

The next day didn’t go well for the Ravens, falling 7-0 to Mount Union. However, on Sunday, the Ravens run-ruled Mt. St. Mary (NY) 12-2 in the 7th inning. Rex Richter pitched a complete game with three hits allowed, and got his first win of the year. Landon Gum hit a two-run home run, and Daniel Barreca drove home 3 runs batted in (RBI) on multiple hits.

The Ravens played again on Tuesday, Mar 10 against Benedictine (Ill). They were defeated by a score of 11-4.

On the final day of games in Florida, the Ravens played a double-header against Saint Joseph’s from Maine. The Ravens picked up a high-scoring victory in the first game with a score of 11-7. Leo McEnulty picked up the first win of his career coming in to pitch late in the game. Multiple players secured multiple RBIs, Daniel Barreca, Trey Dorton, Landon Gum and Ian Potts. The Ravens could not complete the sweep and fell to Saint Joseph’s 5-4.

After the Florida break, the Ravens are now 7-7-1 as they approach conference play against Manchester on Saturday, March 21.

SOFTBALL

The softball team started their season in Florida. They had two games on Saturday, Mar 7, Wheaton (Mass) and Benedictine (Ill). They fell to Wheaton 2-0 but beat Benedictine 3-1, in their win Avery Owens went 4-4 with all of her hits being singles. Pitcher Ariannah Jones delivered two RBI’s and Jayda McKee stole home to score.

The Ravens carried their momentum to Monday and started off with a big win over Dean (Mass) 7-2. M.J Harper picked up the win, allowing two hits, and Kylie Coleman had two doubles.

That was the last win in Florida for AU. Losing on Saturday to St. Scholastica 5-4, and falling to Penn St-Berks and Aurora on Wednesday both by the score of 5-1.

The Ravens finished off their spring break with a trip to Elizabethtown, KY. Though the Ravens went 0-4 in Kentucky, in the loss against MSOE, Maddie Schoenradt hit her first home run of the year. She now leads the team in RBIs with five.

The Ravens look to rebound Friday when they travel to Michigan to face Calvin University.
