“Pointed Pens” gallery open until November

October 26, 2016 by Ian Lawrence

The average American’s blood pressure seems to rise at the very mention of the subject of politics nowadays. However, the faculty of the Communications and Political Science Departments is deciding to embrace this difficult topic instead of skirting it with the promotion of a new month-long exhibition in AU’s Jessie C. Wilson Gallery entitled “Pointed Pens: Editorial Cartoons and American Politics, featuring The Indianapolis Star’s Gary Varvel.” The exhibition features Varvel’s political … [Read more...]

Gaither Archive to showcase alumni legacy

September 14, 2016 by Ian Lawrence

Bill and Gloria Gaither are undoubtedly two of the most successful alumni in AU history, but are at the same time largely unknown to much of the student body. The husband and wife song writing duo and associated Gaither Vocal Band have been making music for over 30 years. Starting Sep. 23, their work will be featured in the York Performance Hall Gaither Gallery as a part of the new Gaither Archive exhibits. Tai Lipan, director of university galleries and instructor of art, calls it a “living … [Read more...]

AU Theatre presents ‘The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)’

April 24, 2016 by Ian Lawrence

Shakespeare has a reputation for leaving a bad impression on students worldwide. Maybe it’s the elevated language, maybe it’s the complicated plots, maybe it’s simply the fact that his works are “old,” but The Bard’s works, though widely read, are not always widely appreciated. Over the next few weekends, however, AU theatre students will take audiences on a rollercoaster ride of jokes and gags to help people lighten up and enjoy Shakespeare in the spring play “The Complete Works of William … [Read more...]

Eric Stone and Han Na Lee win SGA election

March 2, 2016 by Ian Lawrence

While election season for the United States presidency has been heated and divided, student government elections at AU were peaceful and smooth, mostly because there was only one candidate in the running. Last week, Eric Stone and Han Na Lee were elected as next year’s SGA president and vice president, respectively. Though there were no other candidates to run against them, email ballots sent out by the university confirmed the student body’s agreement with the new leadership. Stone is excited … [Read more...]

CRC hosts film festival for Black History Month

February 11, 2016 by Ian Lawrence

What is culture? Who has culture? How do we celebrate culture without alienating others? These are the kind of questions the staff and students at the Cultural Resource Center and the Black Student Association are asking themselves as they prepare to host events for Black History Month. AU has a history of recognizing the season in a variety of ways, whether by open-mic nights, student-led discussions or guest speakers. This year, it takes the form of a free film festival open to all … [Read more...]

Tri-S travelers finish building, experience culture

January 28, 2016 by Ian Lawrence

“As long as there are Comanche children, Indian children, they need to hear the gospel of Jesus.” Ever since Tri-S team leader Ed Breeden heard Reverend Robert ‘Hovarithaka’ Coffey speak these words to the congregation of Brown Indian Church, near Walters, Oklahoma, in 1986, he has had a passion for the Native American people of Oklahoma. Since then, Breeden has traveled to Brown Indian Church at least once every year, leading groups to aid the small church in its efforts to reach their … [Read more...]

Anderson.edu website updates go live

January 20, 2016 by Ian Lawrence

“Up to date” is one of the most important phrases of the digital world and the new AU website is just that. Rising concerns about the website’s lack of mobile compatibility and digital clutter that had accumulated over past updates motivated administration to call for a complete overhaul of the official website. After 20 months of work by a team of staff, administrators and a few students, the new website launched at the beginning of the Spring 2016 semester, sporting fresh designs, streamlined … [Read more...]
