April 27, 2017 by Megan DeBruyn

On Wednesday, April 12, Carry The Love, a ministry team that tours the country worshiping with students on college campuses, stopped at AU for a night of veneration and prayer in Reardon lobby. Kirstin Crawford, a junior studying psychology and youth leadership and development, was one of many students who attended the event; however, she had to leave early on that particular night. A week later, Carry The Love unexpectedly decided to return to campus to host one more event, this time in the … [Read more...]

March 2, 2017 by Megan DeBruyn

Since its commencement in 2015, AU’s small group ministry has expanded from 10 diversified groups servicing about 90 students to 17 groups as of this semester with roughly 170 student participants. “Our hope is that students involved with small groups will see the importance of community in their faith journey,” said Director of Spiritual Formation Becca Palmer, “and that they can find a safe place on campus where they are known and challenged and transformed by Christ.” At the beginning of … [Read more...]

2017-18 tuition to increase by a record low percentage

February 8, 2017 by Megan DeBruyn

At the start of the semester, the AU Board of Trustees, along with faculty and staff members, finalized the rates for room, tuition, board and fees for the 2017-18 school year. The change in cost of tuition alone showed a 2.49% increase from the previous year. According to Vice President of Finance, Dana Stuart, this amount is tied for the lowest percent increase in tuition since the 1969-70 school year, which is as far back as her records date. The rates for 2017-18 are what Stuart calls … [Read more...]

January 18, 2017 by Megan DeBruyn

As students come back to AU for the beginning of the spring semester, many are returning to campus from much farther away. These study abroad students reflect on their time learning, exploring and soaking up new and diverse cultures, as well as the process of transitioning back to life in America.   Quito, Ecuador - Josie Parker (Junior, secondary Spanish education major) What has helped you the most in adjusting back to life in the U.S.?  The fact that my family came and visited me for … [Read more...]

Spookiest Haunts to celebrate the season

October 26, 2016 by Megan DeBruyn

With the onset of colder weather, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, and the appearance of blanket scarves and sweaters popping up all over campus, Autumn is in full swing and for me, that means just one thing: Halloween. With my favorite holiday just around the corner, I find that the best way to get into the spooky spirit is by watching horror flicks, Pinterest-ing for quirky costume ideas, and attending every haunted house that I can convince someone to go to with me. Here are just a few of my favorite … [Read more...]

America falls behind in paid maternity leave

October 5, 2016 by Megan DeBruyn

Spanish Professor Dr. Brandan Grayson returned to AU this week to resume teaching classes after taking a 12-week leave to care for her new baby, Theo, who was born in July. Although she is grateful that the university made it possible for her to receive pay during her time away under the protection of a sick leave policy—a benefit that she acknowledges not all new parents have access to—she does not feel as though her leave was long enough. “My baby is three months old, not sleeping longer than … [Read more...]

Myers Hall reopens to house female undergraduates

September 6, 2016 by Megan DeBruyn

For the first time since 2013, Myers Hall has opened its doors to residential living, this time exclusively for upperclassmen women. Betsy Reiff will be serving her second year as an AU R.D. in the refurbished building, having moved from the now-closed Rice Hall to the other side of campus. “I would love to see girls really claim this as a place that they love to live and make it their own,” said Reiff of Myers Hall, hoping to promote the Psalm 34:4-5 inspired dorm slogan “Be bold, be radiant, … [Read more...]
