The Healing Tent returned to campus this semester for a week of worship, prayer and healing, after making its debut at the corner of 5th Street and Nursery Road on November 11 of last year. “It’s just a time of being on your face before the Lord,” said Sarah Pierce, one of the founders of the Healing Tent. “It’s really just between you and God what you want to do that week. The tent is available for anybody to use. Even if there’s no one there you can come in, bring a blanket or a chair and … [Read more...]

The Gustav Jeeninga Museum of Bible and Near Eastern Studies is taking up residency in York Performance Hall. The process of moving began in the fall of 2018 and is expected to be completed by the beginning of the fall of 2019. Dr. Tai Lipan, director of university galleries, and Dr. David Murphy, the museum director, are heading up this project. “From the beginning, Dave and I saw a lot of different opportunities for the galleries and the museums,” said Lipan. “So we were … [Read more...]
Road work begins on College Drive
With the recent commotion on College Drive, students have seen construction workers, trucks, shovels, flaggers, piles of asphalt and a plethora of orange cones. The ruckus has left students confused. Joe Royer, executive director of facilities and property management, explained that the work being done is in preparation for more road construction in the future. “There is a street renovation project for College Drive between University Boulevard and Fifth Street slated to begin May 13 and … [Read more...]
Letter from the president
I recently convened a student forum on campus to hear directly from students about whatever issues were on your mind. Although we touched on a few other things, the majority of time was spent on LGBTQ+ matters. I was pleased that over the course of two and a half hours, we had a good discussion of where students are today, where the Church of God stands and how our AU policies inform LGBT issues. We also discussed where we might be going as a Christian community. I was disappointed … [Read more...]
Truitt tapped as CEO of Flagship Enterprise
The Flagship Enterprise Center has announced that Dr. Terry Truitt, dean of the Falls School of Business, will begin serving as the chief executive officer as of June 1. School administrators have not yet concluded who will fill Truitt’s position, but are examining the next steps of the process. The president, provost and faculty are working together to determine where to search and whether an interim candidate is needed. The FEC wanted Truitt to start in March, but has worked with … [Read more...]
Dance sets sights on new studios
Though AU is one of the few Christian colleges to offer a dance program, there was once a time when dancing was forbidden on campus. “The Church of God has a strong animus towards dancing,” explained Erich Yetter, assistant professor of dance. “They thought it was lascivious and led to boys and girls getting together.” When students began leaving campus to dance, the university introduced a dance class as a way to keep students safe. AU’s first dance class developed into what is now the … [Read more...]
AU nursing program ranked first in Indiana
The nursing program at AU was ranked number one in the state of Indiana in 2019 by registerednursing.org. “They looked at all the schools in the state of Indiana and ranked us number one,” said Lynn Schmidt, dean of the School of Nursing and Kinesiology. “They compiled five years of information, including NCLEX pass rates, which is the licensure exam that a student needs to become a nurse. Every nurse in the state takes the same exam. They look at the test scores for the … [Read more...]
Students raise Food Services concerns
When it comes to food, AU students are offered a variety of different options; the Marketplace, Raven’s Haven, and Create all exist solely to keep students full and content. However, recent comments and complaints have sparked a campus-wide discussion about the quality and efficiency of dining services. Food Services have even become part of this year’s SGA presidential campaigns. Students, SGA and staff alike all have something unique to contribute to the conversation about dining on campus. … [Read more...]
Pistole holds student forum
Female musical theatre majors Isabelle Yost and Jamie Valentine sparked a campus-wide conversation about LGBTQ+ issues when they shared a kiss on Reardon stage at Encore. Many students took to the Raven app to voice concerns about AU’s stance and policies regarding same-sex relationships in the week following the event. “People have been thanking me for opening up the dialogue about certain issues on campus, whether we meant to or not,” Yost said in a recent Andersonian interview. As a way … [Read more...]
