New admissions director talks boosting enrollment

In January, AU welcomed alumna Kynan Simison as the new director of admissions. Simison attended AU from 1997-1999 and earned her Bachelor of Arts in communications with a focus in public relations. Previously, Simison has held various positions in higher education, including being a corporate admissions director and campus president. Active shooter drill to take place tomorrow

Tomorrow, April 14, there will be a live-action active shooter simulation on campus. The event is scheduled for around 2 p.m. in Decker Hall. Nine police agencies and two fire departments will be participating in the exercise. They will begin setting up the area early in the afternoon, and roads around campus will be shut down around 1 p.m. There will be an officer stationed at every door to Decker reminding people of the exercise. AU Residence Life to host first Raven Run in April

On Saturday, April 2, the Residence Life department at AU will host its first Raven Run on AU’s campus at 9:00 a.m. In the past, Residence Life has used Winter Formal in the fall semester as their way to raise money. “Since our schedule is really heavy in the fall, we decided to reevaluate things and try something new. Pistole comments on Apple vs. FBI controversy

In the last few weeks, Apple has taken their dispute with the federal government to the American public. The dispute is over an iPhone recovered in the San Bernardino shooting last December. Apple is refusing to follow a court order that calls for them to assist the FBI in accessing content on the phone. Juried student exhibition opens in Wilson Galleries

Student artwork was cast in the spotlight during this year’s Juried Student Exhibition. Although the opening reception and award ceremony took place on Saturday, Feb. 27, the Exhibition will remain open for viewing until March 24. The Juried Student Exhibition is an annual event on the AU campus that allows students in the visual communication major to showcase their hard work to their peers and professional artists as well as the general public. Sophomore April Bowen joins RAW Artists agency

Sitting in her studio space, April Bowen, a sophomore art and design student, quickly watercolors a flower pattern that will serve as a background on an upcoming calendar she will be producing. Students explore culture with annual Heritage Week

Each year, the AU community sets aside one week to focus on recognizing and appreciating all of the different heritages that come together to make our community diverse and unique. Heritage Week is sponsored by the Cultural Resource Center and will take place March 1-5. Eric Stone and Han Na Lee win SGA election

While election season for the United States presidency has been heated and divided, student government elections at AU were peaceful and smooth, mostly because there was only one candidate in the running. Last week, Eric Stone and Han Na Lee were elected as next year’s SGA president and vice president, respectively. Crisis management team responds to bomb threat

President John Pistole addressed students and faculty at the end of chapel on Thursday, Feb. 25, to inform attendees that “within the last hour,” the university had received a bomb threat. The threat was sent via email to four different RavenMail accounts, including the Student Government Association and Dean of Students Dr. Chris Confer.
