AU stumbles out of gate; looks to bounce back against Earlham

September 13, 2017 by Alec Brown

Entering his third season leading the Raven football program, Coach Sala had high hopes for the team’s on-field product. After stumbling out of the gates to an 0-2 record, those hopes haven’t been lived up to as previously envisioned. “We’ve made progress in a lot of other areas that people don’t see,” Sala said. “On the field, we have to keep hitting the reset button each year.” Hitting the reset button has resulted in another extremely young team taking the field for the Ravens. Dayan … [Read more...]

AU students flock to hidden local sporting goods store

August 30, 2017 by Alec Brown

With AU students returning to campus for the 2017-18 school year, many are flocking to one of Anderson’s hidden gems. Unable to be found on Apple’s Maps app, this store literally flies under the radar. The Big Sale, located at 2500 E. 10th St., offers athletic apparel at incredibly discounted rates.  Hugh Cherry runs the day-to-day operations, but the store is technically his son’s. Cherry’s son, Hugh Jr., works with BSN sports where he is the director of Lids Team Sports. Lids Team … [Read more...]

Ravens hunt for a spot in HCAC tournament

August 30, 2017 by Alec Brown

Having achieved their first winning season in 15 years, hopes are high on the AU women’s soccer team that the program will take another step forward this fall. “Last year was a key turning point for us,” said Coach Myhre. “It gave us confidence that we can compete and play with anyone. It wouldn’t have been possible except for the work and dedication of the classes before them who not only laid the foundation, but instilled the mentality and work-ethic to create a championship culture. From the … [Read more...]

Ravens swept; still pursue spot in HCAC tournament

April 27, 2017 by Alec Brown

With a hole to dig out of to make the conference tournament and three games at home over the weekend, the Ravens looked to take at least two games from the visiting Earlham Quakers. Anderson was unable to do so, instead getting swept by the Quakers. Earlham outscored the Ravens 25-10 in the series, taking game one 4-1, game two 10-3 and game three 11-6. The Ravens racked up 29 hits on the weekend, only one less than the Quakers, but stranded 27 base runners. The inability to plate base runners … [Read more...]

Hadley Decker was named HCAC pitcher of the week for her two starts against Alma and Rose-Hulman. Unfortunately, her strong performance did not result in two victories.  She posted a 1-1 record. In her start against Rose-Hulman, Decker threw a complete game, only allowing four … [Read more...]

Anderson wins conference home opener over MSJ

April 7, 2017 by Alec Brown

After dropping a one game stand Wednesday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Anderson looked to get back on track with a series victory in their conference home opener against Mount St. Joseph. The Lions, hoping to spoil AU’s home opener, entered the weekend series fourth in the HCAC standings. While the Lions were unable to do so, Mother Nature did her best to mar the home opener, wreaking havoc on Don Brandon Field.  After a downpour, puddles in both corners of the outfield and standing … [Read more...]

March 31, 2017 by Alec Brown

Coming off of a four-game winning streak, the Ravens looked to start conference play with a bang, visiting Bluffton for a three-game series.  “Typically our goal is to sweep home series and take two out of three on the road,” explained shortstop Nick Butcher. Instead, the Ravens dropped two of the three contests, starting conference play with a 1-2 record.  “We really wanted to sweep the series,” continued Butcher, “but that’s very had to do on the road.  We came up a little short this weekend … [Read more...]

Spring golf season underway

March 31, 2017 by Alec Brown

The men’s golf team hit the fairway Saturday to begin their Spring season, competing in the Mount St. Joseph Invitational.  The Ravens placed 13th out of the 14 competing teams.  Zach Whitaker, a sophomore on the team, found some silver linings in the performance. “Considering the poor conditions this weekend,” he said, “we played some good golf at times.  As a whole, we didn’t play very well, but I definitely think we are looking good for the rest of the season.” AU posted a team score of … [Read more...]
