Men’s soccer bid for upset falls just short

September 28, 2016 by Alec Brown

Consensus Top-15 Division III soccer team Ohio Northern likely entered Saturday’s game against Anderson expecting a relatively easy victory. After all, the young Ravens team is coming off of a three-win season. Rather than allow the mystique of a nationally ranked program affect their psyche, the Ravens came out ready to compete against Ohio Northern, holding the Polar Bears scoreless for the first half. Ohio Northern was able to break through the Ravens defense late, scoring two second half … [Read more...]

New school receiving record set in loss

September 28, 2016 by Alec Brown

In a 49-25 loss to previously winless Hanover College, not all was bleak inside Macholz Stadium. Freshman Wide Receiver Jarret Dickey put on quite a show, breaking the AU record for most receiving yards in a single game. Dickey hauled in seven passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns, averaging a staggering 41.6 yards per reception. Dickey’s first touchdown covered 88-yards and his second went for 86-yards. The previous record was held by Brad Lamb, a former Raven who went on to play for the … [Read more...]

Ravens show potential, drop home opener 56-14

September 14, 2016 by Alec Brown

Debuting new gray jerseys in the football home opener, the Ravens had a packed Macholz Stadium buzzing about the potential for a victory over the visiting Centre College Colonels.  Although the young squad showed flashes of brilliance, their youth proved to be too much to overcome, as the more experienced Centre left Macholz Stadium with a 56-14 victory, dropping Anderson’s record to 0-2 on the season. The Ravens started the game with back-to-back three-and-outs on offense. While the offense … [Read more...]

First annual Raven Run is a huge success for residence life

April 24, 2016 by Lindsay Stone

“Just keep going….just keep going…,” student body president Tiffany McHugh recited in her head. This was the day she had been working toward for months. McHugh rounded the final turn of her 10k run and could now see the finish line. From nearly a half-mile away, cheers and music could be heard blasting from the Smith-Martin courtyard. It was the finish line for the first-ever Raven Run. McHugh competed in the race, as did various faculty members, including President John Pistole. Pistole … [Read more...]

Women’s track and field breaks 4 records

March 2, 2016 by Lindsay Stone

Blasting worship music through her headphones, Courtney King scribbles “ φοράω” on her forearm as she sits in corner of the indoor track. The Greek word translates to “fix your eyes” and is a saying King has held dearly all season long. The tradition reminds her each time she looks down upon her arm of the greater purpose she serves. “As my coaches have taught me, it’s about staying positive and thankful no matter what happens, and then that is what puts me into the position where I can get … [Read more...]

March 2, 2016 by Alec Brown

“In 49 states, it’s just basketball... but this is Indiana.” Season three of Intramurals at AU personifies this statement, as night after night students line the sidelines to watch their fellow students take the court in IM basketball. With season three coming to a close, the O.C. Lewis Gymnasium was packed with students to watch the threetime reigning champion Sinkers take on the 12 Disciples in the Women’s championship and the two-time reigning champion Tune Squad defend their crown against … [Read more...]

Track and field shines at opening season indoor meet

January 27, 2016 by Lindsay Stone

The HCAC released its much-anticipated preseason track standing predictions earlier last week. The AU men’s team was picked second while the women’s team was chosen to finish fifth in the conference. Voted on by the 10 conference coaches, the polls are designed to predict how successful a season will be for each team. Yet no poll could predict how exciting Anderson’s season debut would be for both teams. In his second year as head coach for the Ravens, Brian Williams is ready to build on last … [Read more...]

Men’s basketball claims triple-OT victory

January 27, 2016 by Alec Brown

One could have bet the house that the Ravens’ 97-94 double overtime victory over Franklin on Jan. 16 would be the most exciting contest of the season for the team. In a normal season, the bettor would have been correct. The Ravens had other plans as they traveled to conference foe Hanover University on Saturday and emerged victorious in triple overtime by a score of 106-100. The game was tied on 13 different occasions, and there were 10 lead changes. The Ravens employed a seven-man rotation … [Read more...]
