An aging rock star, after having left town following the death of his son, returns three years later to reconnect potentially with his estranged wife and others. That’s the idea behind a feature film, titled “Hellcat,” being produced and directed by Jack Lugar, professor of cinema and media arts at AU. Lugar started shooting the film this past summer. He found his cast close to home in many ways. The cast and crew included his two sons, daughter, daughter-in-law and son-in-law. … [Read more...]

The Pathway to the Valley: Samuel Cho
On a cool spring afternoon, many individuals fill the student-run campus coffee shop. Music plays at a medium volume, often drowned out by the sound of grinding coffee or friendly conversation. One individual sits at a large group table, happily socializing. His math textbook sits open in front of him. The spectacled individual, with slick dark hair and a bright smile, had a truly winding path to get to where he is today. Samuel Cho is a freshman international student this year at Anderson … [Read more...]

Instagram accounts polarize students
What began as a lighthearted joke has become one of the most polarizing topics on campus: anonymous Instagram accounts. Accounts like “Overheard @ AU” and “Anderson University Squirrels” have existed peacefully on the social media platform as a way of promoting community and humor on campus through anonymously submitted overheard quotes and photos of AU’s squirrels, but a new account, “AU Bad Fits,” began a chain reaction of new accounts due to its controversy among students. After the … [Read more...]
Coach Carter Collins
Growing up, Carter Collins had a love of sports thrown at him from both sides of the family. On his mom’s side, it was golf. On his dad’s side, basketball. An unlikely pairing, but Collins found himself fascinated by both sports: one a fast-paced, high-action contact sport with running, jumping and dunking, and the other an intensely slow game of precision and aim. Thus, it was likely no surprise to anyone when Collins, who was already the assistant head coach for Anderson University’s Men’s … [Read more...]

Sidewalk Prophets return to the nest
Just 20 years ago in Smith Hall, student Ben McDonald interrupted student Dave Frey’s “Mario” game to begin a journey neither of them could have predicted. When McDonald asked Frey to join a band he was starting, Frey put down his controller and the two began writing songs. They started writing in the Valley or their dorm rooms and recorded in their rooms with microphones hanging from the ceiling. “God just kept opening doors, kicking them down for me,” Frey explained. “It kind of all … [Read more...]
“After the Whistle” brings community and faith to athletics
Small groups have proven to be great opportunities for students with similar struggles or lifestyles to come together to create connections. The new group on campus, “After the Whistle,” does just that for AU athletes. Senior Braden Mikel and other campus leaders found a lack of community within the athletic teams on campus. The football and women’s soccer coaches, along with the campus ministries department, all felt a desire to help fill this void on campus. “After the … [Read more...]
