Over the course of 60 hours this past weekend, more than 100 people visited the prayer room in Morrison House in order to pray for AU’s campus. The event was planned by a small group of friends who are “passionate about prayer and seeking God’s heart for their lives personally and for the campus,” said Campus Pastor Tamara Shelton. Shelton said that there were more than 160 visits to the prayer room during the 60-hour-long prayer journey. Students weren’t the only ones to get involved. … [Read more...]
AUPD officers: A look inside their career, training and dedication
Early on a Thursday morning in an otherwise-empty Rice Hall, Anderson University Police Department officers point plastic guns at a projector screen and caution the on-screen actors to calm down and lower their weapons. The characters react according to the shouted orders and advance on the officers from all angles—sometimes hoisting an aimed gun. The simulation is just one of the many training sessions that the officers go through each year to prepare for potentially dangerous situations. “I … [Read more...]

Is the “Billy Graham rule” respectful or unfair to women?
Last week, Vice President Mike Pence came under public criticism for statements he made to The Hill in 2002. The statements, mentioned in a Washington Post profile on Karen Pence, regarded Pence’s take on the “Billy Graham rule”—that is, Pence does not eat alone with a woman who is not his wife and does not attend events without her where alcohol is being served. Public backlash was swift and severe to Pence’s statements—however, the practice of the “Billy Graham rule” has long been a practice … [Read more...]

Doubt: A Parable spring play opens next weekend
AU’s spring play, Doubt: A Parable by John Patrick Shanley is about so much more than a vague lack of certainty. It is about where our questions come from and where they take us. The play takes place in 1964 in the St. Nicholas Church School, a fictional private Catholic school in the Bronx, where the kind, progressive and popular Father Flynn comes in conflict with the severe, mistrustful and rigid Sister Aloysius. Though already suspicious of Flynn’s demeanor, Aloysius enlists the help of … [Read more...]

Jackie Grondahl finds calling in visual storytelling
Jackie Grondahl isn’t really sure that she knows what art is, but she is sure that it is her deepest passion, and she would like to spend the rest of her life creating it. “How do you define art, you know?” Grondahl said. “I’d never really thought about it before, but for me, the reason why I make art, per se, is that it’s all about capturing a specific moment. Time is always fleeting, and time is never something that we can hold tangibly. So capturing it is really cool, and something about … [Read more...]
