eSports club connects online gamers on campus
Gamers are not always a close-knit bunch. The days of huddling around the four-controller port console for split-screen sessions of Mario Kart and Goldeneye have been dying a slow death. The temptation often exists to isolate oneself in the world of gaming and make the act of gaming a one-person experience that eschews social interaction for cold, emotionless interaction with a console or computer. Multiplayer is now an online function that often puts the gamer in a situation of isolation, … [Read more...]
AU-based band, Watson, to release EP in coming month
Oftentimes in music, it's how the artist comes to a conclusion that adds an extra layer of meaning to their work and is just as important as the work itself. This is the case with AU band Watson. The band, getting its name from the name of lead singer-songwriter Ben Watson, has been busy since the summer of 2016 collaborating with writers, playing concerts and recording music to get off the ground. But before the folk-rock outfit was formalized into the four-man effort it is now, Ben was … [Read more...]

Movie review: ‘Moana’ tells the story of a powerful princess
If you haven’t seen the new Disney animated picture Moana yet, do yourself a favor and do so, even though finals are fast approaching. This tale of an adventurous, young heir to village leadership who runs away to find herself and save her people may not seem terribly original, but the way that the story is told definitely is. The film carries a powerful message about being true to oneself, and has made great strides in terms of how women and non-western cultures are portrayed. Good lessons and … [Read more...]

Korean language and culture is the focus of visual communication design major Heajin Bae’s senior exhibition in the Wilson Gallery. The exhibition, titled “Home,” is a collection of artwork that Bae hopes will help educate gallery viewers on her Korean heritage in a visual format. “My art process was to begin with defining the problem that I had in my college life,” said Bae. “I had a lot of friends who are interested in Korean culture and language, but there are not a lot of resources or … [Read more...]

‘Deathtrap’ set to entice audience with murder
Rick Vale, the stage director of “Deathtrap,” the upcoming fall play at AU, says that “this show is described as a ‘comic thriller’ because it has elements of a murder-mystery as told in a comic way.” Vale and the cast have been rehearsing since Oct. 24, so they will have only been working on the show for a little over a month by the time it premieres. The cast consists of only three men and two women, while about 10 other people work with costumes, lights and assisting with other … [Read more...]
